Lifestyle Desk – Wisdom teeth usually emerge between the age of 17 to 25 years. This is the last permanent molar to appear in the mouth. In some people, wisdom teeth fall out without any problem, but for many people it can cause problems like pain, swelling and infection. Especially if there is not enough space in the jaw, this molar can get stuck inside the gums or start growing in an oblique direction. Such a condition is called impacted wisdom tooth, which can be quite painful. Let us know how we can get relief from this problem.
According to experts, due to modern lifestyle and change in eating habits, people’s jaws have become smaller than before. In such a situation, there is not enough space left for the wisdom teeth. When this molar tries to come out, pressure increases on the gums, which can cause pain, swelling and sometimes even infection.
When wisdom teeth emerge, the possibility of food getting stuck around the gums increases. Therefore, brush at least twice a day and use mouthwash. This will reduce the risk of bacteria.
Mixing salt in lukewarm water and gargling 2-3 times a day can reduce swelling and provide relief to the gums. This is considered an easy and effective home remedy.
Applying an ice pack or cold compress to the outside of the jaw can help reduce pain and swelling. However, avoid applying ice directly on the skin.
During pain, eat soup, curd, khichdi, porridge and other soft foods. Eating too much hard, spicy or hot food can increase the problem.
If the pain continues to increase, pus is coming out from the gums or there is difficulty in opening the mouth, then contact the dentist immediately. Many times, it is detected through X-ray whether the molars are emerging in the right direction or not.
