Manchester United and Arsenal are reportedly in a fierce race to sign Bournemouth midfielder Alex Scott, whose value has soared to £60 million following an impressive Premier League season. The 22-year-old was a standout performer for the Cherries and narrowly missed inclusion in Thomas Tuchel’s England squad for the World Cup.
Battle for Bournemouth’s prized asset
Scott has quickly established himself as one of the brightest young English talents in the Premier League, attracting close attention from both Manchester United and Arsenal. His consistent performances in midfield for Bournemouth have drawn praise, particularly for his creativity and composure in central areas.
According to reports from the Daily Mail, any club hoping to sign Scott will need to meet Bournemouth’s valuation, which stands around £60 million ($79m). The youngster notably scored the winning goal against Arsenal at the Emirates Stadium earlier this season. Despite growing interest, Bournemouth are optimistic about securing him on a new long-term contract.
Manchester United’s midfield rebuild
Manchester United are expected to be active in the transfer market this summer as they look to restructure their midfield following the exit of veteran Casemiro. The Red Devils have already agreed terms with Atalanta’s Ederson, with the deal expected to be completed after the World Cup. However, manager Michael Carrick is reportedly keen to add more depth to the squad ahead of their Champions League campaign.
Scott is believed to be one of United’s top midfield targets, though he is not the only option being considered. The club are also monitoring West Ham’s Mateus Fernandes after the Hammers’ relegation. Midfielder Manuel Ugarte could potentially leave Old Trafford if the right offer arrives this summer, helping to balance the squad.
Arsenal face strong London competition
Arsenal’s pursuit of Scott is driven by Mikel Arteta’s ambition to inject more youth and technical flair into his midfield. Having witnessed Scott’s ability firsthand when Bournemouth defeated the Gunners in North London, Arsenal’s management are well aware of his potential. Yet, competition for the 22-year-old’s signature is intensifying among Premier League heavyweights.
Tottenham Hotspur are also reportedly interested in signing Scott and are said to be approaching the current transfer window with an aggressive strategy, ready to make a significant financial commitment for top targets.
World Cup disappointment and future prospects
Although missing out on the final England squad for the World Cup in North America was a blow, Scott’s growing reputation and transfer interest have softened the disappointment. He participated in the Three Lions’ pre-tournament camp in Florida but was ultimately omitted from Tuchel’s final 26-man selection, as the manager opted for more experienced players.
Scott remains under contract with Bournemouth until 2028, so the south coast club are under no pressure to sell. However, the attraction of Champions League football and the chance to join one of England’s traditional ‘Big Six’ clubs could be difficult for the young midfielder to resist.
