Morocco vs Haiti preview: Can the Atlas Lions clinch the top spot in Group C?

Group C will reach its conclusion on Wednesday evening, with Morocco aiming to confirm their place in the last 32 of the tournament.

The World Cup Group C fixtures wrap up midweek as Morocco face Haiti, while Brazil take on Scotland in the other crucial match of the group.

The main storyline of this final round of matches revolves around whether Scotland can make history by qualifying for the World Cup knockout stages for the very first time.

Although the stakes are not quite as high in the Morocco–Haiti encounter, both sides still have plenty to play for as the group stage concludes.

Morocco WIN - 2/11

Draw - 11/2

Haiti WIN - 14/1

Regardless of Wednesday night’s outcome, Haiti’s second-ever World Cup journey will come to an end. Their defeat to Brazil on Friday confirmed that they are unable to progress to the knockout rounds.

However, the Caribbean side will look to end their campaign on a positive note and will hope to score their first goal of the tournament when they meet Morocco at Atlanta Stadium. Kick-off is scheduled for 5 pm local time (11 pm UK time).

As seen with several of the final group fixtures, the various permutations are expected to influence how both teams approach this clash.

Morocco know that to finish at the top of Group C and earn a last-32 meeting with the Group F runners-up (currently Japan), they must either record a better result than Brazil’s against Scotland, or, if both teams win, overturn a two-goal deficit on goal difference compared to the South Americans. Should goal difference remain the same, total goals scored will serve as the next tiebreaker.

Any victory or draw will be enough for the Atlas Lions to secure a top-two finish. Even with a defeat, they could still progress as runners-up, depending on Brazil’s result against Scotland.

Ismael Saibari, who plays for PSV Eindhoven, has scored both of Morocco’s goals in the tournament so far and is once again expected to be a key figure for his side.

With Morocco eager to win the group, goal difference could prove decisive. Players such as Brahim Diaz and Bilal El Khannouss will be vital in maintaining attacking dominance and feeding Saibari with goal-scoring opportunities.

Morocco completely controlled their meeting with Scotland on Friday but were unable to convert that dominance into a significant goal margin. They are likely to encounter another deep defensive setup from Haiti in Atlanta.

Haiti, playing purely for pride, will hope that Morocco’s attacking intent leaves them space to exploit and finally find the back of the net — something they have yet to achieve in this summer’s competition.

Nevertheless, the North African side appear to possess enough quality and depth to secure a comfortable win and finish their group campaign strongly.
