This change has brought great relief especially for the people living from one city or state to another due to work. Now they will not have to depend on only one shop and can buy grains from other shops as per their convenience.
The Central Government has implemented a new facility under the One Nation One Ration Card system. After this, eligible beneficiaries will be able to get their ration at concessional rates from any fair price shop in the country. This system has been implemented with the aim of making the public distribution system more convenient and flexible.
According to the new system, now it will not be necessary to depend on any one ration shop to get ration for the entire month. If wheat is available at one shop and rice is available at another shop, then the beneficiaries can get ration from different shops as per their convenience.
The government believes that this change will reduce crowding at ration shops and people will not have to face problems even in situations like technical glitches or stock outages. With this, eligible families will be able to get their full ration on time.
According to Union Minister of State BL Verma, this system will work like the ATM system of the bank (Ration Card). Just as a bank customer can withdraw money from any ATM, similarly ration card holders will not be limited to any one fixed shop and will be able to get food grains from fair price shops across the country.
Migrant workers and their families will get the biggest benefit of this system started under the National Food Security Act. Through Aadhaar based biometric verification, they will be able to get subsidized food grains (Ration Card) wherever they are living in India. With this, people who frequently change places for work will not have to depend on their home district for ration.
