Former Liverpool manager Jurgen Klopp has offered a subtle suggestion that he may return to the dugout someday, while carefully avoiding any direct comment on speculation linking him with Real Madrid. The German strategist, who stepped away from frontline management, has continued to attract interest from across the football world.

Klopp sidesteps Bernabeu rumours

Despite taking a break from coaching, Klopp remains one of the most respected figures in international football. In a recent conversation with Italian outlet Gazzetta dello Sport, the 59-year-old was asked whether he had ever considered taking charge at the Bernabeu during his career. The former Borussia Dortmund manager, known for his wit and discretion, tactfully dodged the question, maintaining confidentiality about his professional past.

German keeps possibilities open

When pressed for a concrete answer on whether he would consider the Real Madrid job, Klopp refused to elaborate. He said, “Right, if I answer that question now, everything I've said so far disappears, erased. There's Jose. That's fine. So, no comment.”

Nonetheless, when asked if he could ever return to management, Klopp light-heartedly responded, “I train every day, in the gym... Jokes aside, we’ll see.”

Klopp’s ongoing role with Red Bull

Currently, Klopp serves as the head of global football operations for Red Bull, a position he officially began in January 2025. His contract, running through 2029, entrusts him with shaping the long-term footballing philosophy, overseeing scouting systems, and guiding coaching development across the Red Bull network, which includes RB Leipzig and Red Bull Salzburg. This executive role follows an illustrious managerial career that saw him lead Borussia Dortmund to consecutive Bundesliga titles and deliver both Premier League and Champions League triumphs with Liverpool.

Mourinho’s return reshapes Madrid’s plans

Real Madrid’s appointment of Jose Mourinho, who has signed a contract until June 2029, has closed the door on any immediate managerial vacancy in the Spanish capital. The Portuguese coach officially takes over from Alvaro Arbeloa on July 13, following two consecutive seasons without silverware at the Bernabeu.

As a result, Klopp is expected to continue focusing on his executive responsibilities with Red Bull, while fans and pundits alike wait eagerly to see when and where the charismatic German might next take charge from the sidelines.
