Real Madrid are reportedly set to notify Como of their definite plan to trigger the €9 million buy-back clause for young midfield star Nico Paz. The Spanish giants are then expected to immediately propose selling him back to the Italian club for a significantly higher fee, capitalising on his tremendous market value following an outstanding season.

Madrid ready to activate Nico Paz clause

Officials at the Santiago Bernabéu are scheduled to meet representatives of the Serie A side today to finalise the economical release clause for the 21-year-old talent. As per transfer expert Fabrizio Romano, Real Madrid aim to instantly offer Como the chance to retain their standout performer permanently for €60 million (£52 million). If Como decline the hefty valuation, the La Liga champions are prepared to sell Paz elsewhere, as he is not currently part of their immediate first-team plans.

Romano outlines Real Madrid’s strategy

This tactical decision will allow the Spanish club to secure a considerable profit from an academy graduate who joined the Italian side on a permanent four-year deal worth €6 million in August 2024. Romano has revealed that the buy-back plan includes giving Como first refusal to keep their key midfielder ahead of their landmark European campaign. However, if the two clubs fail to reach a financial agreement, top contenders such as Inter Milan and several cash-rich Premier League teams are ready to make competitive offers.

Argentine midfielder’s remarkable rise

Nico Paz delivered a spectacular season in Serie A, scoring 12 goals and providing six assists to help Como achieve a historic top-four finish and secure qualification for the UEFA Champions League. The attacking midfielder led all midfielders in non-penalty goal involvements and shots on target per 90 minutes, underlining his dominance in Italy’s top flight. His exceptional form earned him 10 senior caps for Argentina and a place in their current World Cup squad, drawing attention from major European scouts.

Wealthy owners face crucial decision

With billionaire Robert Budi Hartono and his family at the helm, and club president Mirwan Suwarso managing operations in Italy, Como’s Djarum ownership group faces a pivotal financial decision. Despite their combined fortune surpassing $40 billion, the owners must decide whether to approve the record-breaking €60 million investment to keep their star midfielder. Their decision in the coming negotiations could prove decisive for the club’s Champions League debut and their potential to sustain top-four ambitions in Serie A.
