Major League Soccer’s Eastern Conference leaders, FC Cincinnati, have failed in their efforts to secure one of global football’s most high-profile stars.
Reports suggesting that Brazilian legend Neymar could be set for a stint in the United States have now been dismissed, as the Seleção forward has officially withdrawn from negotiations, according to Tom Bogert of The Athletic.
Neymar, who recently marked his comeback for Brazil after a 981-day absence in their commanding 3-0 win over Scotland, is said to have been disappointed by the lack of tangible progress in discussions regarding a potential transfer to TQL Stadium.
Although FC Cincinnati’s sporting director Chris Albright and club president Jeff Berding reportedly met with Neymar and his father in April, no formal offer was ever presented to the player’s representatives.
Despite this latest development, sources indicate that Neymar remains open to considering a move to Major League Soccer once his contract with Santos concludes. The league continues to express interest in adding the superstar’s name to its growing list of international football icons who have joined in recent seasons.
