The summer transfer window in the Premier League has witnessed its first major shockwave. Manchester City have finalised a complete agreement with Nottingham Forest for the record-breaking €150 million transfer of England international defensive midfielder Elliot Anderson.
The 23-year-old, who has been City’s top target to reinforce their midfield, is now poised to become the centrepiece of a historic deal. After having two prior bids turned down — one reportedly valued at €123 million — the Manchester giants finally convinced Forest’s board with an offer that could total €150 million (£130 million) including performance-related bonuses.
As reported by the highly respected journalist David Ornstein of The Athletic and corroborated by Fabrizio Romano, the two clubs have now reached a full agreement, putting City firmly ahead of Manchester United, who had been keen to remain in contention for the player.
Currently representing the Three Lions at the World Cup, the former Newcastle United prodigy has developed into one of Europe’s most coveted midfielders. He now only needs to finalise his personal terms with the Premier League runners-up before the move is made official.
With this record-breaking deal — the most expensive in British football history — Manchester City have effectively acquired the long-term successor to Rodri, whose existing contract with the club runs until 2027.
