Crystal Palace have set a £50 million asking price for defender Maxence Lacroix as Chelsea initiate discussions over a potential transfer.

The West London club have reached out to their cross-town rivals to explore a deal for the French centre-back, with manager Xabi Alonso keen to strengthen his defensive options this summer. Lacroix is among the names on Chelsea’s shortlist, which also includes Como’s Jacobo Ramon.

Palace are reluctant to part ways with Lacroix during this transfer window, especially after selling Marc Guehi to Manchester City in January. The club views the Frenchman as a crucial part of their defensive setup heading into the new season.

However, according to reports from Football Insider, the Eagles would consider entering negotiations if an offer close to £50 million is made. Palace initially paid £18 million to sign Lacroix from Wolfsburg in 2024, meaning such a deal would generate a substantial profit in line with their sustainable, sell-to-buy operating model.

Chadi Riad’s strong displays at the World Cup have given Palace confidence that he can overcome his injury setbacks and play a bigger role next season. Yet, should Lacroix depart, the South London club will move to bring in a replacement before sanctioning any sale. A new defender would be required to compete alongside Riad, Jaydee Canvot, and Chris Richards for a starting spot in the backline.
