In a post on social media, Trump targeted European countries, which he said were discussing imposing taxes on American companies. Trump wrote, this statement should be understood that whichever country imposes such a tax, 100% tariff (import duty) will be immediately imposed on all types of goods sent to America.
He further said that this new tariff will replace the already decided trade agreements. Trump said that this penalty would be imposed on any country that implements such a tax, although he specifically mentioned European countries in his post.
Due to Trump's warning, there is a possibility of trade war starting again between America and Europe. Many countries are considering imposing a digital services tax to ensure that multinational technology companies pay taxes in the markets from which they earn the most money. This issue has been a major cause of disagreement between Washington and many European governments. America argues that such taxes specifically target American technology companies.
