Manchester United are anticipated to make significant additions to their squad this summer, although the club’s transfer dealings have begun rather slowly. Following the departure of Casemiro, who left on a free transfer, the Red Devils remain resolute in their aim to strengthen the midfield.
According to an earlier report shared by The Peoples Person, the English giants have already reached an agreement with Atalanta midfielder Ederson, though no official confirmation has been released so far. Meanwhile, reports suggest that INEOS’ key target, Elliot Anderson, appears to be heading to Manchester City during this window.
Elsewhere, United’s chase of West Ham United’s Mateus Fernandes has encountered competition from Tottenham Hotspur, who have made a strong approach for the player. The Red Devils are also evaluating overseas options, and recent reports indicate that Real Madrid’s Aurelien Tchouameni has once again emerged as a potential signing.
Tchouameni appears to be an ideal successor to Casemiro at Old Trafford. Interestingly, Real Madrid originally brought him to the Santiago Bernabeu in 2022 as the Brazilian’s long-term replacement.
Since joining Los Blancos, the 26-year-old French midfielder has established himself as one of the standout players in his position globally, embodying the qualities Manchester United seek in a defensive midfielder. Last season, he recorded two goals and two assists across 49 appearances in all competitions for the Spanish champions.
A recent update from The Peoples Person indicates that Tchouameni is open to a move to Manchester United this summer. Club legend Rio Ferdinand has now weighed in with his thoughts on the potential transfer.
During an episode of Rio Ferdinand Presents, the former United defender stated that Tchouameni would be a perfect fit to replace Casemiro at Old Trafford. Ferdinand remarked, “My main question about it (Mourinho going to Real Madrid) is whether United are going to get Tchouameni? Because I keep hearing those rumours, and he would be one of the first midfielders on my list if there’s any chance to bring someone in to replace Casemiro. Tchouameni would be that guy.”
He continued, “You know what? I’ve been saying that Jose is the man to reunite Tchouameni and Valverde at Real Madrid and keep them together.”
“But honestly, if there’s even the slightest chance that Tchouameni could leave, Manchester United must be the first club knocking on Real’s door and ensure he doesn’t speak to anyone else. Get him signed, sealed, and delivered.”
Ferdinand then addressed Tchouameni directly, saying, “I know we’ve had a few chats privately, and I know you watch the show.”
“Looking straight down the lens now — there’s only one club for you, mate. If you’re thinking of leaving Real Madrid, we are the club for you. Manchester United is the club. If you want to make it happen, just make the call. That’s what I’d do.”
Tchouameni is currently under contract with Real Madrid until 2028, and any potential transfer could cost around £87 million this summer.
The French international is entering the prime years of his career and could continue to improve in the coming seasons. However, the main concern for United would be how quickly he adapts to the Premier League, as the club urgently needs a player capable of making an immediate impact next season.
