New Delhi: Passport is an important document for individuals planning to travel abroad. Under the normal process, it may take 30 to 45 days to obtain the passport. Application for Tatkal Passport can be made online or at the nearest Passport Seva Kendra. There are separate fees for new passports, re-issues and minors at the time of application. A fee of around Rs 3,500 is charged for a new Tatkal passport and around Rs 3,000 for minors.
Some necessary documents also have to be submitted for the application. Adult applicants have to provide a prescribed number of proofs from among the documents like Aadhar Card, PAN Card, Voter ID, Driving License, Bank Passbook, Birth Certificate or other valid identity and address proof. To apply online, first of all you have to log in to the Passport Seva portal or mobile app and select the Tatkal category. After this, the application form is filled, necessary documents are uploaded, appointment is booked and fee is deposited.
If the applicant chooses the first appointment slot between 8 am to 9 am, the chances of scrutiny of documents and further processing starting early on the same day increases. This can also speed up file processing and printing work.
However, the time frame for issuance of passport mainly depends on police verification. In cases where police verification is quick or not required, the passport is received within 2 to 3 working days. Therefore, keeping all the documents correct while applying and completing the verification on time is important in the passport application process.
