Alex Scott: Arsenal Withdraws, Putting Manchester United in the Lead

Manchester United’s efforts to strengthen their midfield have encountered several obstacles in recent weeks.

The club managed to finalise a deal for Ederson relatively quickly, but progress has since faltered. Initially, United were forced to step back from potential signings of Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali due to high valuation demands.

Just as an agreement for Mateus Fernandes appeared to be within reach, Tottenham Hotspur entered the picture, and the North London side are now believed to be leading the race for the player.

As a result, INEOS have started exploring alternative options, with Bournemouth’s Alex Scott emerging as a serious target for the Red Devils.

The Cherries are determined to keep hold of their influential midfielder and are currently negotiating a new contract with the 22-year-old. If he agrees to the extension, the new deal is expected to include a release clause worth £75 million. Arsenal had also joined the pursuit alongside Manchester United.

However, in a rare piece of positive news for United, it now appears that Arsenal have withdrawn from the chase, according to a report from Football Transfers.

“FootballTransfers also understands Arsenal are not inclined to make a bid for Alex Scott, despite holding the Bournemouth midfielder in high regard.

“The Athletic reported earlier in June that Arsenal have added Scott to their shortlist of targets, with the 22-year-old believed to be valued at €92m (£80m) by Bournemouth.”

The reigning league champions are prioritising Bruno Guimaraes instead, leaving Manchester United at the front of the queue for Alex Scott.

It remains uncertain whether INEOS will move decisively for the Bournemouth star or continue negotiations with West Ham United for Mateus Fernandes.

The club’s broader transfer plans have also suffered a setback following Manuel Ugarte’s injury sustained during the World Cup.
