On Sunday, individuals accused of leaking the Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) were brought before the Bhiwandi court. Advocate Maria Ansari, representing the prosecution, stated that considering the seriousness of the case, the court has ordered the accused to be held in police custody until the 6th of the month. This timeframe allows the police investigation team to complete their questioning. She also mentioned that the primary suspect in this scam is a resident of Maharashtra and will be presented in court soon. Additionally, one of the accused required medical treatment due to health issues.
Advocate Shailesh Madhukar Gaikwad, representing the accused, revealed that the case was registered at the Kongaon police station. Approximately 10 lakh students were expected to take this exam, highlighting the scale and sensitivity of the situation. The police had received a confidential tip-off about three individuals attempting to sell the exam papers. Acting swiftly, the police set up a trap and caught the suspects red-handed. While the prosecution requested a 10-day custody, the court granted custody until the 6th. The police are currently verifying the authenticity of the seized papers to determine if they were genuine or counterfeit. Among the three arrested, two hail from Bihar and one from Delhi.
To delve deeper into this major scandal, four specialized investigation teams from the Thane police are conducting inquiries outside Maharashtra, focusing on leads in West Bengal, Bihar, Delhi, and Haryana. Reports indicate that the Thane police became aware of this interstate paper leak racket on the evening of June 25. To expose the racket, they devised a clever strategy by posing as potential buyers and contacting the suspects. Over two days, they monitored the suspects' activities and lured them with a substantial sum in exchange for the papers. As soon as the accused arrived to finalize the deal, the police apprehended them.
According to police sources, four suspects flew from Delhi to Thane to negotiate the paper leak deal. While three of them have been successfully captured through the police trap, one remains at large, and efforts are underway to locate him. An intriguing detail that emerged during the investigation is that all three arrested individuals are well-educated and had meticulously planned this significant scam.
