Manchester United forward Marcus Rashford is widely expected to depart Old Trafford this summer, although he has yet to finalise terms with any of his potential new clubs. The England international, deemed surplus to requirements at the Theatre of Dreams, spent the previous season on loan with Barcelona.

Rashford enjoyed a strong campaign with the Catalan giants, helping them secure both the LaLiga title and the Supercopa de Espana. Over the season, he registered 14 goals and 14 assists in 49 matches across all competitions.

However, Barcelona surprised many by declining the €30 million option to make his transfer permanent, opting instead to pursue Newcastle United’s Anthony Gordon. This development has intensified speculation surrounding Rashford’s next destination, especially as Manchester United are eager to move him on during the current transfer window.

Despite that, there is no shortage of interest in Rashford within the Premier League and from clubs abroad. Yet, defender Harry Maguire has hinted that a return to Old Trafford could still be on the cards, following remarks made in a recent interview.

Speaking on The Rest Is Football podcast on Netflix, Maguire expressed that the Manchester United dressing room would gladly welcome Rashford back if he wished to rejoin the team. He said, “I have an amazing relationship with Marcus and have shared some great moments with him over the years.”

“I know what a wonderful player he can be. It’s up to the club and Marcus to find a mutual agreement. Of course, if Marcus does come back, we want him to return happy, confident, and ready to play.”

“It has to be right for him and for the club, but everyone knows the quality Marcus brings to whichever side he represents next season.”

Rashford remains under contract with Manchester United until 2028.

He was handed his first start of the 2026 FIFA World Cup in England’s final group-stage match against Panama on Saturday. Although Thomas Tuchel’s team secured a 2-0 victory, the United forward did not contribute a goal or assist.

Maguire, however, praised his teammate’s efforts, saying, “I think he was so direct and positive in everything he did. We had talked about the Ghana game where our tempo was slow and we showed too much patience.”

“Rashy immediately took the game to Panama. In the first 10 minutes, he delivered four or five crosses into the box, which weren’t as precise as usual, but then he produced one that almost led to a goal for Harry. He was a constant threat throughout the match, and when he’s in that kind of mood, every England fan knows how dangerous he can be.”

“I’ve had the privilege of playing with him at Manchester United for many years, and when he’s in that direct, confident frame of mind, he’s virtually unstoppable on his day.”

Manchester United are actively seeking a new left-winger this summer, and Rashford’s reintegration could potentially save the club a significant amount of money. However, relations between Rashford and United appear strained, and it may be that a clean break serves both parties best under the circumstances.
