Major League Soccer is set to welcome another iconic footballer this summer, as Polish superstar Robert Lewandowski is reportedly on the verge of joining Chicago Fire.

According to The Athletic, the 37-year-old forward has signed a two-year deal with the Eastern Conference club. The agreement will make Lewandowski one of the highest-paid players in the league.

Speaking earlier this month about the potential signing, the club’s Director of Football and head coach Gregg Berhalter commented, “We’re working to bring in world-class players. We believe Lewandowski would be a tremendous addition, not just for Chicago Fire but for the entire league, to have a player of his calibre.”

He added, “We rate him alongside Messi in terms of quality, and it would be fantastic for the city of Chicago.”

The Warsaw-born striker, who has enjoyed a glittering career at both club and international levels, will move to Chicago after amassing an astonishing 662 goals in over 900 appearances across his spells with Znicz Pruszków, Lech Poznań, Borussia Dortmund, Bayern Munich, and Barcelona. Throughout his career, Lewandowski has collected 33 major trophies.

Unsprisingly, Lewandowski stands as Poland’s all-time record holder for both appearances (167) and goals (89). He has represented the Biało-Czerwoni in the 2018 and 2022 FIFA World Cups, further cementing his legendary status in Polish football history.
