Spain and Athletic Club forward Nico Williams has issued a deeply emotional message on Sunday after suffering yet another injury setback that threatens his participation in the ongoing World Cup.

The incident occurred as the Spanish national team faced Uruguay in the final round of the group stage fixtures this weekend. Luis de la Fuente’s side secured a 1-0 victory, finishing top of their group and booking a knockout round clash with Austria.

However, the triumph was overshadowed by two significant injury concerns. Both wingers, Yéremy Pino and Nico Williams, were forced to leave the pitch early due to fitness issues. Williams sustained a muscular injury that could potentially sideline him for several weeks.

Coming to terms with the possibility of missing the remainder of the tournament, the 21-year-old took to his official X account on Sunday to share a heartfelt message reflecting his frustration, faith, and determination to return stronger.

He wrote, “Today is one of the worst days of my life. I’ve gotten injured again after a very tough year, one in which the pubic symphysis pain won many battles against me, but not the war. I managed to overcome it with hard work, sacrifice, and above all, responsibility. It was a year and a half of suffering, sadness, uncertainty, and anxiety. I didn’t know when I’d be able to play without pain again or when I’d get back to a normal life. I even got to the point of living with the pain in things as simple as going to the bathroom, getting in and out of the car, or just enjoying day-to-day life. Getting back to being happy playing football was my top priority, along with recovering my smile. Because without a smile, without enjoying it and without being happy, I can’t perform at the highest level. I overcame it. Then came a hamstring injury that put me to the test once more. I stopped smiling again, but I wasn’t going to let it stop me either. Yesterday, I was caused a new injury after an action in which a fellow professional acted out of frustration, discontent, and sadness over the situation he was going through. It was a play that, in my opinion, could have been avoided because it was completely unnecessary. But this won’t stop me either. I know God has a plan for me, and I’ll keep fighting until the very last moment to get back to doing what I love most: playing football, being happy, and bringing joy to many. From the bottom of my heart, thank you all for your messages of support. The story isn’t over—we’ll see each other as soon as possible in this World Cup.”

Williams’ message quickly resonated with fans and teammates alike, drawing widespread support and encouragement across the football community.

The young winger’s resilience and positive attitude continue to inspire, even as Spain prepare to move forward without him in their upcoming fixtures.
