Manchester United Finalise Their Stance on Amad Diallo’s Future Amid AC Milan Links

Manchester United have made a definitive call regarding Amad Diallo’s future, following speculation that the Ivorian winger could reunite with Ruben Amorim at AC Milan, as reported by Fabrizio Romano.

Although Amad was one of the standout performers under Ruben Amorim, the 23-year-old struggled to reproduce that same level of form after Michael Carrick took over as manager in January.

The Ivory Coast international, who played a key role in helping his national team progress to the knockout stage of the World Cup, spent most of Amorim’s 14-month spell operating as a wing-back.

After the Portuguese manager’s departure — which also marked the end of his 3-4-2-1 tactical structure — Carrick restored Amad to his more natural position on the right wing.

This move, however, placed him in direct competition with Bryan Mbeumo. Under Amorim, the two had often featured together, with Amad on the right and Mbeumo deployed centrally as a false nine.

During the early phase of Carrick’s interim tenure, Amad started several matches on the right flank while Mbeumo played through the middle. Yet, a string of below-par performances eventually cost the former Atalanta player his place in the starting XI.

With Amorim recently appointed as AC Milan’s head coach, reports from Italy suggested that he might attempt to bring Amad to the San Siro, particularly as the Rossoneri are in search of a new right wing-back.

However, Fabrizio Romano has confirmed that Manchester United have no plans to sell Amad this summer, a stance that Carrick himself has already conveyed to the club’s hierarchy.

“Let me clarify one thing. Man United have been clear with Amad Diallo – Amad is not for sale this summer,” the Italian transfer insider said on his YouTube channel.

“Manchester United will not let [him] leave the club in the summer transfer window. So if you see reports about Amad and English clubs, or Milan, or others, Man United want to continue with him. Michael Carrick has confirmed his decision to the club, so the direction is very clear: Amad Diallo is expected to stay.”

With the club’s return to the Champions League and expectations of deeper runs in domestic competitions, Manchester United are set to face a demanding fixture schedule next season.

For a top side competing on multiple fronts, having two high-quality players per position is almost essential. Carrick’s situation — with both Amad and Mbeumo vying for the right-wing slot — is precisely the kind of healthy selection dilemma that most managers across Europe would appreciate. Both players are expected to receive ample playing time, especially given Mbeumo’s ability to operate effectively through the centre as well.
