RB Leipzig sporting director Marcel Schafer has firmly rejected speculation that Yan Diomande could be on his way to Paris Saint-Germain this summer, stressing that the young forward will remain with the club. Despite widespread reports suggesting a transfer to the Parc des Princes is imminent, the Bundesliga side are adamant about retaining the Ivorian star for at least another season.
Leipzig resolute over Diomande’s future
The German club has made its stance clear — Yan Diomande will not be leaving RB Leipzig during this transfer window. Paris Saint-Germain have been strongly linked with a move for the 19-year-old, yet Schafer has reiterated that the club has no intention of entertaining any offers.
Speaking with Bild, Schafer stated unequivocally, “Yan Diomande will play for RB Leipzig next season. We are not changing our position on that.”
While acknowledging that the talented youngster will eventually take the next step in his career, Schafer maintained that this is not the right time. “The moment will come when we let Diomande move on to a bigger challenge. But that won’t happen this year.”
No price tag set for the Ivorian prodigy
Since joining RB Leipzig from Spanish second-division team Leganes for €20 million last year, Diomande’s market value has skyrocketed. His performances have been so impressive that reports claim Leipzig turned down a staggering €100 million bid from Liverpool earlier in the transfer window. According to Schafer, the club does not even have a “financial pain threshold” for the player at the moment.
Instead of seeking a transfer, Leipzig are reportedly working to secure Diomande’s long-term future. The Bundesliga outfit is planning to revise his current contract, which runs until 2030, with significantly improved terms. This adjustment aims to reward his rapid rise and deter further interest from top European clubs.
PSG deal rumours and loan possibilities
Leipzig’s firm position comes in response to reports from Footmercato suggesting that Diomande has already agreed personal terms with PSG. Although discussions have allegedly taken place between the French champions and Leipzig, the German club’s leadership remains unmoved. Supervisory board chairman Oliver Mintzlaff had earlier expressed confidence about the situation, stating in April that there was no need to rush into any sale.
Mintzlaff commented at the time: “If I were the sporting director, I would not sell this young player who has been with us for less than a year, regardless of the price.” However, a potential deal might still materialise under specific conditions. One proposed model involves PSG signing Diomande this summer and loaning him back to Leipzig for a season — a similar arrangement to what Leipzig used when they transferred Naby Keita to Liverpool in 2017.
From Spain’s second tier to Bundesliga stardom
Having arrived from Leganes as an unheralded prospect, Diomande has quickly become one of the Bundesliga’s brightest stars. His immediate impact has fuelled ongoing speculation about his future, but Leipzig’s management remains determined to keep him.
Statistically, Diomande’s debut season has been remarkable. With 12 goals and eight assists in all competitions — the second-best tally in the Leipzig squad behind Christoph Baumgartner — he has proven himself integral to the team’s attacking setup. Winning 55 percent of his duels, he has also demonstrated strong physical presence to complement his technical skill.
When asked by Kicker last month whether he would remain at Leipzig next season, Diomande replied, “Yes,” adding, “I’m not thinking about that right now. I have a contract with Leipzig and I enjoy playing here. But no one knows what will happen in the future. Every player has ambitions, and mine is to play at the highest level possible.”
