The final of the four World Cup 2026 fixtures scheduled to take place at Monterrey Stadium is here, featuring a mouth-watering Round of 32 encounter between the Netherlands and Morocco.

Both nations reached the quarter-finals in the previous World Cup, with Morocco going one step further to make history as the first African side ever to qualify for the semi-finals.

Although the Netherlands have had mixed World Cup campaigns in recent decades, their prolific attack during this year’s group stage has certainly caught Morocco’s attention.

Netherlands WIN - 6/5

Draw - 21/10

Morocco WIN - 23/10

Ronald Koeman’s Dutch side have made a strong start to the tournament. They twice surrendered the lead in their opening match against Japan but went on to thrash Sweden 5-0 and net three more against Tunisia, topping Group F in style.

Morocco, meanwhile, opened their campaign with a draw against Brazil before defeating Scotland and Haiti to advance to the knock-out rounds as runners-up. They trailed Haiti early on in what became a 4-2 victory, having earlier struck first in their 1-1 draw with Brazil.

Koeman and his players will be fully aware of Ismael Saibari’s early scoring form in Morocco’s first two matches. Nevertheless, the Netherlands will trust their attacking arsenal to handle whatever challenges the North African team throws their way.

The Dutch have scored 10 goals in the group phase, with several forwards finding form in front of goal. Cody Gakpo netted twice against Sweden, while Crysencio Summerville found the net against both Japan and Sweden.

However, Sunderland striker Brian Brobbey has been the standout performer, registering three goals in the Oranje’s last two outings.

That presents a formidable defensive test for Mohamed Ouahbi’s men. Their only clean sheet in the group stage came against Scotland, who failed to register a single shot on target.

The Moroccan defence will have its work cut out in Monterrey. While they possess the pace and creativity to threaten on the counterattack, they may need to strike more than once to outscore the Dutch side.

The only competitive meeting between these two sides came in the group stage of the 1994 World Cup, also hosted in the United States, when the Netherlands secured a 2-1 win.

Interestingly, every previous clash between the Netherlands and Morocco has ended 2-1 in one team’s favour. Given the attacking nature of this year’s tournament, fans could well see a few more goals this time around.
