“There are 500,000 ways to win a football match. You just have to find one,” remarked Jürgen Klopp on Magenta TV, as he reflected on Germany’s penalty shootout loss to Paraguay.

It was only natural that the conversation turned to whether Klopp himself might be considered for the role of Germany’s head coach – a position he has been frequently linked with in recent times.

“I haven’t thought about that [the Germany head coach role] yet. I understand that when discussions about the national coaching role take place, my name comes up in some capacity,” Klopp said.

“But this isn’t the right time to really talk about it. There’s nothing to add on that matter. I already have a job that I truly enjoy. And as far as I know, it’s not a part-time position,” he added.

When asked about Julian Nagelsmann’s team performance, Klopp was critical, suggesting that Germany “didn’t create enough” and expressing strong dissatisfaction with their overall approach throughout the 120 minutes.

“You have to attack down the wings. There’s simply no other option. We all know how talented these players are, but they didn’t bring that to the pitch. In three months, we’ll once again be praising Wirtz and Musiala for how brilliant they are. But not today,” Klopp commented.

He further analysed the match dynamics: “Paraguay had the chance to achieve something significant (…) Germany were the ones under pressure to deliver. Everyone in the stadium thought: Now they’ll turn it around! But we didn’t. We let them off the hook.”

Klopp also emphasised that structural reform was necessary within Germany’s football system and offered a suggestion on how such changes could begin.

“We can talk about the DFB (German Football Association). We absolutely need to change a few things. We can start with the U-10s and wait a few years to see what kind of results come through,” he concluded.
