Noni Madueke has voiced his complete disbelief at those who continue to question Jude Bellingham, describing the England star as a genuinely world-class talent after his outstanding performances at the World Cup. The Arsenal winger emphasised that the Real Madrid midfielder consistently steps up during high-pressure moments, with his dominant showing against Panama being just another example of his usual excellence for the Three Lions.
Business as usual for Bellingham
Speaking to ESPN, Madueke revealed he was not the least bit surprised by Bellingham’s pivotal display in England’s 2-0 win over Panama. The national team had been struggling to break through a stubborn defence until Bellingham took charge and made the decisive difference.
The midfielder opened the scoring with a precise header from a Bukayo Saka corner, easing the mounting pressure on head coach Thomas Tuchel and his players. A few minutes later, he turned provider, sending in a superb cross that Harry Kane converted with a powerful header to double the lead. Involvement in both goals earned Bellingham the player of the match award for the second game in a row.
Silencing the doubters
Although Bellingham had previously expressed dissatisfaction with his own display in the goalless draw against Ghana, Madueke brushed aside any criticism directed at his teammate. The winger insisted that such consistently top-tier performances are simply what people should come to expect from the midfielder. Reacting to the Panama game, Madueke passionately backed his fellow England international.
“I feel like he is a world-class player; every time I watch him, I see the same level of quality nearly every single time,” Madueke said. “That last game — I don’t understand how that can come as a surprise to anyone. This is what he’s been doing for years now, so when I see him play like that, it just feels normal.”
England’s key leaders
Bellingham now has three goal contributions in this World Cup, matching the tally of captain Harry Kane, who had earlier netted twice in the 4-2 victory over Croatia. Madueke praised both players for their leadership and ability to deliver when England need them most. “I think they’ve been the most decisive — two players who take responsibility for us,” he said.
“I think Jude, especially in the last game, was unplayable, and obviously, you always know what you’re getting from Harry in terms of goals. I’m really pleased that both of them are playing at their best right now, and I hope they keep that form going into the knockout rounds because we’ll need them.”
Looking ahead to the knockout stage
Having secured qualification, England will now shift their focus towards the high-stakes knockout phase. Tuchel’s squad is preparing to face DR Congo in the round of 32. With Bellingham and Kane performing at their peak, the Three Lions will feel optimistic about progressing further in the tournament and sustaining their winning momentum.
