Preparations are being made to oust Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu from power in the country. Netanyahu has been holding this post continuously since December 2022, but there are preparations to remove him in the upcoming elections. Former army chief Gadi Aizencott, considered Netanyahu's main rival, has started his election campaign on Tuesday (June 30).
Gadi Aizencott, head of the new centrist party Yashar, promised during his election campaign to be a unifying leader and ousted the current government, accusing it of creating chaos. He announced to contest for the post of Prime Minister and made various promises ranging from education, economy and public security.
With the slogan 'Israel must win', Eisencott described the upcoming elections as decisive for Israel's security, unity and soul. During this, referring to the Hamas attack of October 7, 2023, he said, 'In the coming October, that terrible October government will come to an end. We will begin a new and much better chapter in the history of Israel. We will write it together.
Former IDF Chief of Staff Gadi Eiseenkot has left Benny Gantz's Blue and White party and formed his own party. He promised to be a unifying leader rooted in Israel's tradition, heritage and Torah and prime minister of all Israeli citizens.
Although he did not take Netanyahu's name, he said that there are some people who create division and take such steps which are against the national interest. This is a slap in the face of those Israelis who work, serve and are ready to sacrifice their lives for this motherland. Eizenkot was referring to that government law. This statement of Eizenkot is believed to be specifically a reference to those controversial proposals which include steps related to exempting ultra-Orthodox Jews (Haredi community) from military service.
Hitting back at Netanyahu's recent statement about forming a comprehensive national unity government, Eisecott said, 'The leadership is using the term national unity as a deceitful election campaign. I will make every possible effort to unite the nation. He said that his leadership will be based on Israel's traditions, heritage and values.
Eysenkot alleged, 'This is a leadership for which words like 'accountability' and 'personal example' are meaningless. This is lying leadership. As if there is no other way than the anarchy in which we live, which promotes division as if it has no value, whose only way to rule is to separate us.
Attacking the current government, Aizencott said, 'This is a leadership for which words like 'accountability' and 'personal example' are meaningless. This is lying leadership. As if there is no other way than the anarchy in which we live. It promotes division as if it has no value. Its only way to rule is to separate us'. He said, 'It is our duty to end this madness... because Israel does not have the privilege of making mistakes again. We will replace a leadership that lacks vision and strategy.
Eisencott promised to form a state commission to investigate the Hamas-led massacre on October 7. About 1,200 people were killed in this attack by Hamas and 251 people were taken hostage to Gaza. He said the commission's findings would be used to learn from the past and prepare for the future.
He also stated the rehabilitation of the North and South as one of his major goals and pledged to take care of every person injured physically or mentally during the war. Giving relief to the reserve soldiers, he said that reserve service will be limited to 50 days in a year. By expanding the army, we will reduce the burden on soldiers and reserve soldiers. Along with this he
Haredi and Arab communities also promised to recruit into the military and national service.
Amid pressure from Naftali Bennett and Yair Lapid's Together party to form a coalition, Eisecott indicated that he would not be part of any coalition that he did not lead. He asked 'Will we accept social division and move on to the next disaster, or will we recover and rebuild?' He said that the biggest challenge facing Israel today is to end division and make the country strong again.
Former General Gadi Eiseenkot, who entered politics just four years ago, has now emerged as the strongest rival of Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu. He joined Netanyahu's war cabinet after the October 7 attack, but resigned alleging there was no strategy for Gaza in 2024. Like almost all of Netanyahu's rivals, Eiseenkot has broadly supported Israeli military operations in countries such as Gaza, Lebanon and Iran.
But he alleges that Netanyahu has failed strategically after the October 7 attack. He says that Netanyahu's vision of an isolated Israel is a threat to the future of the country. Recently, Likud party leader Netanyahu hit back, saying that if he had listened to Eizenkot, who opposed some operations in Gaza, Hamas would still be in control of the entire area.
