Marcus Rashford could remain at Manchester United this summer following encouraging discussions between his representatives and the club’s management.
Rashford spent the previous season on loan at Barcelona, where he played a key role in helping the Catalan side capture both La Liga and the Spanish Super Cup. The forward had been sidelined at Old Trafford under former United manager Ruben Amorim before making the move to Spain.
During his stint at the Nou Camp, Rashford netted 14 goals in 49 appearances across all competitions and had expressed a desire to make the move permanent.
Currently part of the England squad competing at the World Cup in North America, Rashford’s future appeared uncertain. However, the possibility of a permanent transfer to Barcelona now seems unlikely following the club’s recent acquisition of his England teammate Anthony Gordon from Newcastle United in a £69 million deal.
According to reports from the Manchester Evening News, new United boss Michael Carrick is eager to keep Rashford at Old Trafford beyond the summer transfer window. Talks between both parties are said to have established the foundations for his reintegration into the first-team setup during pre-season.
Manchester United are reportedly reluctant to approve a third consecutive loan for the England forward. Although several Premier League sides are expected to show interest in the 28-year-old, Rashford is believed to prefer staying at United to see out the remaining two years of his contract.
It has been confirmed that Rashford will join United’s first-team squad for pre-season preparations and could feature in some of the club’s six scheduled friendly matches before the new campaign begins.
United are understood to be keen on reinforcing their options on the left flank this summer. Everton’s Iliman Ndiaye and West Ham’s Crysencio Summerville have been identified as potential signings. However, those plans might be reconsidered if Rashford commits to staying at Old Trafford.
The club could instead redirect funds originally intended for a left-sided player to bolster their midfield, particularly after Manuel Ugarte suffered a serious knee injury while representing Uruguay against Spain at the World Cup—a setback that is likely to rule him out for most of next season.
If Rashford remains, his reunion with Carrick could mark a fresh start for both the player and club, offering United a boost as they look to rebuild under their new manager.
