Australian captain Sophie Molineux gave an encouraging update on Ellyse Perry after the star all-rounder walked off injured during Australia's semi-final win over the West Indies at the T20 World Cup.
Perry was on 2 not out in Tuesday's semi-final when she left the field due to quad "awareness." Molineux said after Australia's eight-wicket victory: "Just some quad awareness, but it sounds like she'll be more than OK to go on Sunday."
However, the 35-year-old remains under an injury cloud ahead of the final on Sunday night. Perry has already missed two World Cup finals in her career, tearing her hamstring at the 2020 T20 World Cup and suffering back spasms at the 2022 ODI World Cup.
Beth Mooney scored 61 not out and Ash Gardner 35 not out as Australia chased down West Indies' total of 125 with seven overs to spare. Given the comfortable chase, the team likely kept Perry in cotton wool to avoid further risk.
Fans voiced concern on social media, with one writing: "Wishing Ellyse Perry a speedy recovery. Hope we see her back on the field for the final." It would be a heartbreaking blow if Perry is not fit for the final.
