Italian midfielder Sandro Tonali is set to become Tottenham Hotspur’s fifth signing of the summer transfer window, as the club continues its ambitious recruitment drive with more additions expected soon.

Tottenham have finalised an agreement to sign Newcastle United’s Sandro Tonali for a club-record fee of £100 million.

According to Standard Sport, the Italy international will sign a long-term contract to join Roberto De Zerbi’s squad in north London.

It is understood that Spurs will pay £92.5 million upfront, with an additional £7.5 million in performance-related bonuses tied to Champions League qualification milestones. If all conditions are met, the total deal value will reach £100 million.

Club sources have also dismissed claims that Spurs received an offer from Newcastle for Archie Gray, contrary to reports suggesting that an approach from the Magpies had been turned down.

Tonali’s arrival will follow the recent signings of Jan Paul van Hecke, Andy Robertson, Marcos Senesi, and Martin Dubravka, further strengthening Tottenham’s squad depth.

Meanwhile, West Ham United midfielder Mateus Fernandes is expected to finalise his move to Spurs after both clubs agreed on an £85 million transfer fee for the 21-year-old earlier this week.

Both Fernandes and Tonali are scheduled to complete their medical examinations in the coming days.

Tottenham’s transfer activity signals their determination to rebuild and push forward after narrowly avoiding relegation on the final day of the Premier League season. The club has moved swiftly to secure another of De Zerbi’s key targets.

Tonali is reportedly enthusiastic about joining De Zerbi’s project, with the manager aiming to restore Spurs as contenders for the upper end of the Premier League table following two consecutive 17th-place finishes.

Manchester City and Arsenal were also linked with Tonali, but the 26-year-old has chosen Spurs after several rounds of negotiation with the north London side.

Tottenham hope to have both Tonali and Fernandes ready to participate when pre-season training begins on Friday, 10 July.
