Manchester United continue their hunt for a long-term successor to Casemiro after missing out on three of their primary midfield targets.
Ederson has already joined the club on Casemiro’s recommendation. Although the Brazilian midfielder possesses the ability to play as a deep-lying playmaker, his natural inclination is to operate as a dynamic box-to-box performer.
The Red Devils had identified Elliot Anderson and Sandro Tonali as ideal Premier League-proven options, but financial constraints prevented them from securing either player.
As a result, INEOS were compelled to adjust their transfer strategy, turning their focus to the inventive Mateus Fernandes. However, Tottenham Hotspur ultimately secured his services following an irresistible offer.
Among the players still being monitored are Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Tyler Adams. Manchester United are also keeping a close eye on Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes.
The 28-year-old midfielder, currently partnering Casemiro for Brazil at the World Cup, has two years remaining on his existing contract and could prove to be a shrewd acquisition.
Michael Carrick is said to be particularly keen on a player of Bruno Guimaraes’ calibre, who combines defensive resilience with technical finesse in the heart of midfield.
Reports suggest that Arsenal are currently leading the race for his signature, with a fee of around £65 million expected to tempt Newcastle into negotiations.
Despite that, having already lost both Sandro Tonali and Anthony Gordon this summer, the Magpies are determined to avoid the departure of their captain.
According to Football Insider, Eddie Howe’s side are preparing a lucrative new contract offer in an attempt to secure the Brazilian’s future at St James’ Park.
“Newcastle United are planning to tie star midfielder Bruno Guimaraes down to a new contract, sources have told Football Insider.
“Sources have now indicated that they are ready to make a ‘bumper new contract’ offer to try to keep the former Lyon man at St James’ Park for several more years.
“Guimaraes’ current deal on Tyneside has just two years left to run, which is potentially set to present a difficult situation for the club next summer. With Tonali seemingly heading for the exit door, the club are determined to keep hold of their other influential figure in Guimaraes.”
Whether Manchester United decide to pursue Bruno Guimaraes or shift focus towards younger talents remains uncertain. INEOS also have Aurelien Tchouameni and Ayyoub Bouaddi under consideration, with Michael Carrick eager to strengthen the midfield with three new signings.
