The Election Commission of India has announced by-elections for three assembly seats in Bihar, Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat. According to the Commission, voting for these three seats will be held on July 30, while the counting of votes will be done on August 3. The Election Commission said that these by-elections will be held for Bankipur seat of Bihar, Datia seat of Madhya Pradesh and Manjalpur seat of Gujarat. Preparations have been started regarding this.

According to the official schedule released by the Election Commission, the process of this by-election will start with the issuance of notification on July 6. Candidates wishing to contest the elections will be able to file their nominations till July 13. The next day, i.e. on July 14, all the nomination papers will be scrutinized closely. Candidates who wish to withdraw their candidature can do so till July 16. After this, the voting process will start on the morning of 30th July, through which the public will be able to choose their representatives. Finally, the election results will be declared on August 3.

Why are by-elections taking place?

Bankipur assembly seat in Bihar had become vacant after the resignation of BJP's newly elected national president Nitin Naveen. Datia Assembly seat became vacant after the disqualification of Congress MLA Rajendra Bharti in Madhya Pradesh. At the same time, Manjalpur assembly seat became vacant due to the death of senior BJP MLA Yogeshbhai Narayanbhai Patel in Gujarat. After which the Election Commission started the process of filling these vacant seats as per the rules of the 'Representation of the People Act'.

Election Commission is strict regarding rules

With the announcement of election dates, the 'Model Code of Conduct' has been immediately implemented in the respective districts. Under these guidelines, the government and political parties are prohibited from making new announcements or carrying out activities that could influence voters. Furthermore, to ensure fair and transparent elections, the Election Commission has mandated the use of Electronic Voting Machines (EVMs) as well as VVPAT machines at all polling booths so that voters can confirm their votes.
