Manchester United have placed Crysencio Summerville among their primary transfer targets to strengthen the left wing position this summer.

The West Ham United winger has earned a spot on Michael Carrick’s shortlist, although the club’s immediate focus continues to be on bolstering their midfield options.

According to Sky Sports, any potential move for Summerville is closely linked to the outcome of Marcus Rashford’s situation at Old Trafford. The club is expected to hold off on making a firm approach for a wide player until Rashford’s future is clarified.

Rashford’s circumstances remain uncertain. He is scheduled to return to Carrington following the World Cup, with Barcelona’s purchase option having now expired. While the forward is keen on returning to Catalonia, Manchester United are set on a permanent transfer instead of another loan deal. However, Rashford has not completely ruled out rejoining the squad under Carrick.

Summerville’s qualities make him an appealing prospect for United. Known for his speed, direct approach, and ability to take on defenders in one-on-one situations, the Dutchman could add a much-needed dynamic edge to United’s flanks. Although he can feature on either side, he is particularly effective when cutting in from the left.

The 24-year-old impressed at the World Cup despite enduring a challenging domestic campaign. He scored on his debut against Japan and finished the tournament with two goals and two assists before the Netherlands were knocked out by Morocco in the round of 32.

Financially, Summerville also represents a viable option. Following West Ham’s relegation to the Championship, they have reportedly valued him at around £50 million — a figure significantly lower than that of other potential targets such as Morgan Rogers and Iliman Ndiaye.

Manchester United are also monitoring Mathias Fernandez-Pardo from Lille. The club are currently viewed as favourites in the race after two key developments: Liverpool, who had previously shown interest, have cooled their pursuit, and United themselves lost out on signing midfielder Mateus Fernandes to Tottenham Hotspur.

Manager Michael Carrick remains determined to secure two midfielders and one winger before the close of the transfer window as he continues to reshape his squad for the upcoming season.
