This fixture marks the final World Cup game to be played in the Canadian city, and it could also represent the end of the tournament road for one of football’s greats, with either Luka Modric or Cristiano Ronaldo possibly making their final appearance on this stage tonight.

Norwegian referee Espen Eskas will be in charge of the match, taking to the pitch for his second assignment of the tournament.

Earlier in the competition, Eskas oversaw Uruguay’s draw against Cape Verde.

In addition, he has played a role in other fixtures, including serving as the fourth official in Scotland’s 3-0 group stage defeat to Brazil—a result that ended Scotland’s World Cup campaign.

At 37 years old, Eskas is younger than both Ronaldo and Modric, yet he brings considerable experience to the field, having officiated several high-profile matches throughout his career.

Primarily a referee in Norway’s top division, Eskas has also handled games in the UEFA Champions League and served as a fourth official during the 2024 European Championship.
