New Manchester United signing Andrea Medina has shared that former Red Devils midfielder Vilde Boe Risa played a key part in convincing her to make the move to Leigh Sports Village.
United recently announced Medina as their first addition of the summer transfer window.
The Spanish defender joins from Atletico Madrid, where she featured three times against United during the 2025/26 Champions League campaign—matches that United won on each occasion.
Medina has signed a contract that keeps her at the club until 2029, with an option to extend for another year.
The 22-year-old has been handed the number 6 jersey, which became vacant following Hannah Blundell’s exit from the club.
Speaking to the club’s official media, Medina revealed that she had spoken with her Atletico teammate Vilde Boe Risa, who offered valuable insight about life at United and strongly encouraged her to join the English side.
Boe Risa previously spent two seasons with Manchester United before moving to Atletico Madrid in September 2023.
Medina said, “I get along very well with her. She spoke very highly of the club. She helped me make the right choice, told me I needed to come here, and supported me in that decision. Honestly, I’m very happy.”
Reflecting on facing United in Europe, Medina admitted the team made a strong impression on her. “In the Champions League, every opponent is amazing, but when I came up against Manchester United, I found them incredible—all the players.”
She continued, “The truth is, it’s a very strong and important team, and I’m delighted to be here.”
Describing her own playing style, Medina said she is “very aggressive, fast, and forceful,” adding, “I fight for everything; I fight for every ball.”
The defender is expected to link up with her new teammates later this month when the squad returns to begin pre-season training ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.
