If you often struggle with the IRCTC app slowing down while booking Tatkal tickets, there is good news for you. Indian Railways is revamping its ticket booking system (PRS). Following this upgrade, the system will be capable of booking 1.25 lakh tickets per minute—a significant shift from the current capacity of just 25,000 tickets per minute. This new system will transform the entire online ticket booking experience by increasing booking speeds fivefold. CRIS (Centre for Railway Information Systems), the technical arm of the Ministry of Railways, announced this development on its 41st foundation day. Officials state that this will make booking tickets during the festive season much easier.

Ordinary passengers stand to gain the most from this new system. Currently, the server faces immense load during the daily 10 AM and 11 AM Tatkal booking windows, often causing the app to hang or users to get logged out. Railways believes the new system will easily handle this heavy load, ensuring passengers can book tickets without interruption.

**A Four-Decade Digital Journey**
CRIS has been working on the digitalization of the railways for the past 40 years. The organization has developed several major digital platforms for the railway network, ranging from ticketing systems for the general public to freight train operations management. These systems are now being modernized and made more secure to keep pace with the times.

**Focus on SuperApp ‘RailOne’ and AI**
Railways is also working on its new SuperApp, ‘RailOne,’ and integrating Artificial Intelligence (AI). CRIS Managing Director GVL Satya Kumar noted that the RailOne app is already receiving a positive response. AI will now be used to provide passengers with better services tailored to their preferences. Simultaneously, cybersecurity measures are being strengthened. This upgrade will also help curb the use of illegal software by ticket touts and enable the system to smoothly manage the heavy rush during the festive season. This new system will become fully operational in the coming months. Once that happens, the general public will be permanently relieved of the hassle of booking tickets online.
