Real Madrid’s rising star Endrick has opened up about his strong relationship with Brazil team-mate Neymar, sharing how he continues to learn from the experienced forward during the 2026 World Cup. The young striker also voiced his complete confidence in head coach Carlo Ancelotti, praising the Italian tactician’s strategic brilliance as the Selecao prepare for the round of 16.
Learning from a legend
Speaking to ESPN, Endrick discussed his experience at the World Cup and the lessons he has drawn from Neymar. Although Neymar missed the start of the tournament due to an injury, the two have recently spent time together on the bench.
Endrick said: “I have a very good relationship with Ney. We joke around after training, play cards, and talk. On our day off, we were together, having conversations. It’s very important to talk with leaders of the national team like Marquinhos, Casemiro, and Alisson.”
He continued: “Gaining experience from them is an amazing thing. They truly understand football. Learning from them is invaluable. It’s the same with Ney. We sit next to each other on the bench too. I’m trying to absorb as much as I can because I still have a long career ahead of me.”
A surprise against Japan
The young forward also lauded Ancelotti following Brazil’s 2-1 victory over Japan in the round of 32. Endrick impressed after being introduced at half-time and credited the Italian coach for his guidance.
“The game against Japan was fantastic. I didn’t expect to come on at that moment. During half-time they called me, and I could only pray, asking God for calmness. It was like a switch flipped in my head; I was cheering from the bench, and then in the dressing room, they told me I was going to play,” he explained.
Reflecting on reuniting with his former Real Madrid coach, Endrick added: “It was a wonderful experience. He was my first coach in Europe, and it was incredible. I learned so much from him and his staff. I’m very thankful and happy. There couldn’t be a better fit than having him lead Brazil.”
Building trust under Ancelotti
Endrick remains patient as he earns his chances under Ancelotti. “My first season with Ancelotti was one where I played quite a bit. Not many minutes, but I came on in nearly every match. He always told me my moment would come. In the Copa del Rey, he gave me more time, and I managed to help the team, scoring in almost every game,” he recalled.
He went on: “I was always calm. He’s one of the best managers in the world and knows exactly what to do. In this last game, the player who scored the winning goal came off the bench. We can be confident—he always makes the right decisions for the team.”
Endrick further explained: “He doesn’t do what’s best for me or for Matheus Cunha; he does what’s best for the team. He trusts his instincts, and it’s as if God guides him. When he instructs me to do something, I just follow his voice and carry it out without hesitation.”
Speaking about his versatility, the youngster said: “At Lyon, I contributed as a number nine, also playing wide on the right and as a false nine. Ancelotti knows my strengths and attributes. We worked together for a year, and he’s always recognised how I can help the team. It’s the same here with Brazil.”
What’s next for Brazil?
Brazil are now gearing up to face Norway on Sunday in a crucial round of 16 clash at the World Cup. With Lucas Paqueta ruled out through injury and Raphinha still doubtful, Endrick is a strong candidate to start. As the knockout rounds heat up, the young star will be looking to justify Ancelotti’s trust and help Brazil move a step closer to global triumph.
