On Friday, the Punjab BJP chief, Keval Singh Dhillon, urged the state government to provide ₹51,000 to every woman in Punjab. This amount is intended as compensation for delays in financial assistance promised before the last elections, which includes a monthly support of ₹1,000 during the AAP's tenure. Chief Minister Bhagwant Mann recently launched the 'Mawan Dhiyaan Satkar Yojana,' a monthly financial aid program for women, claiming that AAP has fulfilled its last electoral promise made before the 2022 assembly elections.

Details of the Financial Aid Scheme

Under this initiative, women from the general category will receive ₹1,000 monthly, while those from Scheduled Castes will get ₹1,500. Mann stated that over 4 million women have registered for this significant program. Speaking to reporters, Dhillon accused the Mann government of betraying the women of Punjab.

Demands for Immediate Action

Dhillon insisted that the government should immediately transfer ₹51,000 to each woman, a figure that corresponds to the 51 months of AAP's governance in Punjab. This demand is based on a promise made by AAP leader Arvind Kejriwal during an event on November 21, 2021, titled 'Kejriwal Di Teeji Guarantee, Mahilavan Nu Vadhaiyan.' Accompanied by Punjab BJP leader Vineet Joshi, Dhillon described the delays in implementing this scheme as a 'historic betrayal.'

Criticism of the Current Financial Support

He further criticized the government for offering only ₹1,000 to general category women and ₹1,500 to Scheduled Caste women, arguing that this is a refusal to honor Kejriwal's commitment to provide ₹51,000 over 51 months, which included a promise of ₹1,000 monthly for every eligible woman. AAP came to power in Punjab in March 2022.
