FDA Launches Crackdown On Energy Drinks Like Sting, Gutkha Within 500-Mtr Radius Of Schools Across Maharashtra

The Maharashtra government has banned the sale of high-energy drinks within 500 metres of schools, citing health concerns for children. Announced in the state assembly, the FDA will enforce strict inspections of vendors near educational institutions and take action against unsafe or misleading products.

Mumbai, July 3: In a serious bid to regulate the consumption of high-caffeine beverages among youth, the Maharashtra government on Friday announced a comprehensive ban on the sale of high energy drinks like Sting within a 500-metre radius of schools across the state.

The directive was issued in the State Legislative Assembly by Food and Drug Administration (FDA) Minister Narhari Zirwal, following a question raised by BJP MLA Vikram Pachpute.

Concerns Over Health Risks

Raising the issue in the House, MLA Vikram Pachpute highlighted the severe health hazards posed by the popular energy drink.
