When monsoon comes, we hear many untrue things about hair health. People easily believe things like ‘getting wet in rain causes hair loss’, ‘first rain water is harmful for hair’ or ‘no need to wash hair after getting wet in rain’. However, all these things are not completely true. Hair health is not only dependent on rainwater but pollution, scalp hygiene and proper hair care habits also have a major impact on it. But let’s find out if hair falls after getting wet in the rain.
Facial Icing: Is applying ice on the face really beneficial or just a trend? Know the advantages and disadvantages
Rainwater alone is not the direct cause of hair loss. Stress, changes in hormones, nutritional deficiencies, genetic factors and certain health problems can also cause hair loss. However, if the scalp remains moist for a long time after being drenched in rain, the risk of infection may increase.
The early rains after a long summer are likely to mix airborne dust and soil. Therefore, it may be advisable to avoid prolonged soaking in the first rain. However, the situation is not the same everywhere and every time.
If you get wet in the rain in a polluted environment, it is beneficial to wash your hair with clean water or a mild shampoo when you get home. This helps in removing dust, dirt and soil from the hair.
Rainwater is not the only cause of hair damage. Proper hygiene, balanced diet, drinking enough water and a regular hair care routine can keep hair healthy even during monsoons.
