Ange Postecoglou is set to join forces with Cristiano Ronaldo next season after signing a contract to become the new manager of Al-Nassr.

The 60-year-old Australian coach has been without a managerial position since his dismissal from Nottingham Forest after a brief stint last season. In the meantime, he has been part of ITV’s punditry team covering the 2026 World Cup.

Postecoglou now heads to the Saudi Pro League, taking over from Jorge Jesus, who departed the club immediately after steering Al-Nassr to the league championship.

He has agreed to a two-year contract with the Saudi side, which could see him on the sidelines when Ronaldo attempts to surpass the remarkable 1,000-goal milestone. Ronaldo currently stands at 976 goals, having recently converted a penalty that propelled Portugal past Croatia into the World Cup round of 16.

Al-Nassr announced his appointment with a memorable quote from Postecoglou, originally made when he took charge of Nottingham Forest last October.

He had then remarked: “At all my previous clubs, it ends the same. With me and a trophy.”

Although that prediction did not come true at the City Ground, Postecoglou’s managerial career remains decorated with significant achievements from his time at Celtic and Tottenham Hotspur.

During his tenure at Spurs, he delivered their first major trophy in 2025 by guiding them to Europa League glory after defeating Manchester United in the final held in Bilbao, despite a disappointing domestic campaign.

However, his success in Europe did not save him from being dismissed soon after, as Tottenham’s 17th-place finish in the Premier League overshadowed the triumph — a position the club again matched under new management the following season.

His stint at Celtic was far more prosperous, where he secured a league and cup double in the 2021/22 season before leading the Scottish giants to a historic treble the following year.

Postecoglou also led the Australian national team for four years, managing them at the 2014 World Cup and claiming the AFC Asian Cup title in 2015.

His managerial debut for Al-Nassr, whose squad features stars such as Sadio Mané, João Félix, and Kingsley Coman, is scheduled for 16 August in the King of Cup Champions Clash against Diriyah.
