Arsenal captain Martin Odegaard has no plans to leave the north London club for Galatasaray this summer, with insiders describing reports of a potential Emirates exit as “completely false.” The Norwegian midfielder is fully focused on his nation’s World Cup campaign, while continuing to prepare for Arsenal’s Premier League title defence.

Reports from Turkey earlier this week suggested that Galatasaray were targeting the Arsenal star and that personal terms had already been agreed between the player and the Turkish outfit. However, sources close to the situation have dismissed those claims, reaffirming that there is no truth behind the supposed transfer links.

According to those familiar with the matter, Odegaard is extremely happy at Arsenal, and the club is equally pleased to retain their Premier League-winning captain. The 27-year-old, who joined the Gunners in 2021, continues to be a vital influence both on and off the pitch. The 2025–26 campaign is expected to be his strongest season yet since his arrival in London.

After initially joining Arsenal on loan in early 2021, Odegaard made the move permanent that summer and quickly became a cornerstone of Mikel Arteta’s project. He was appointed club captain in 2022 following the departures of Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang and Alexandre Lacazette. Since then, he has guided Arsenal through multiple Premier League title challenges.

In the most recent season, Odegaard lifted the Premier League trophy as Arsenal topped England’s top flight for the first time in 22 years. He also played a crucial role in taking Arsenal to the Champions League final, where they were ultimately defeated by Paris Saint-Germain.

Across his Arsenal career, Odegaard has made 234 appearances and scored 42 goals, collecting both the Premier League title and the Community Shield along the way. He was also named Arsenal’s Player of the Season for two consecutive years, in 2022–23 and 2023–24, recognising his consistency and leadership.

Currently, Odegaard is representing Norway at the World Cup, where he has started three of the team’s four matches, missing only the final group stage clash against France. Norway have won every game that Odegaard has started, with the midfielder providing an assist in each of those three victories—against Iraq, Senegal, and most recently, Ivory Coast in the Round of 32.

The 27-year-old has earned 71 international caps and scored five goals for his country. He continues to serve as Norway’s captain, a role he has held since 2021. This year’s World Cup marks Norway’s first appearance in the tournament since 1998, making Odegaard’s leadership particularly significant.

Following their Round of 32 triumph, Norway have advanced to the next stage of the knockout rounds. Their upcoming fixture is a high-profile clash against Brazil, scheduled for July 5 at the New York New Jersey Stadium.
