Delhi, July 4: On Saturday, Prime Minister Narendra Modi expressed his congratulations to Keiko Fujimori following her success in the presidential election in Peru. He reiterated India's dedication to enhancing bilateral relations and expressed his enthusiasm for collaborating with the new leader to foster cooperation across various sectors.
In a message shared on X, the Prime Minister stated: "Heartfelt congratulations, Keiko Fujimori, on your triumph in the Peruvian Presidential elections. India highly values its strong friendship with Peru and is committed to furthering our bilateral partnership across multiple sectors. I wish you a fruitful tenure and look forward to collaborating closely with you to strengthen our ties for the benefit of our nations' citizens. @KeikoFujimori"
Modi emphasized the significance India places on its enduring friendship with Peru, affirming New Delhi's commitment to broadening cooperation in various areas of mutual interest.
Roberto Burneo, the president of Peru's National Jury of Elections, announced on Friday that Keiko Fujimori from the Popular Force party has been declared the winner of the presidential election held on June 7 for the term 2026-2031.
During an official ceremony, Burneo stated, "On behalf of the National Jury of Elections, I officially declare Mrs. Keiko Fujimori as president of the Republic, elected by the sovereign will of the Peruvian people."
The official count from the National Office of Electoral Processes indicated that Fujimori secured over 50 percent of the votes.
Fujimori is set to assume office on July 28, with Luis Galarreta serving as the first vice president and Miguel Torres as the second vice president.
India and Peru enjoy friendly diplomatic relations and have progressively enhanced cooperation in sectors such as trade, investment, mining, pharmaceuticals, information technology, agriculture, and cultural exchanges. New Delhi has also been intensifying its outreach to Latin American nations as part of its broader engagement strategy with the region.
