Jurgen Klopp has revealed that he has been in contact with the German Football Federation (DFB) about possibly taking over as Germany’s next head coach following Julian Nagelsmann’s resignation. The former Liverpool manager said he feels “more than recharged” and eager to step back into management, though the talks are still ongoing.

Klopp emerges as the top contender for Germany job

Klopp confirmed that the DFB reached out to him after Julian Nagelsmann resigned in the wake of Germany’s disappointing World Cup campaign, which ended in a last-32 defeat to Paraguay. Speaking in New York, where he was serving as a pundit for Magenta TV, Klopp acknowledged that he had been approached by the federation. While no deal has been finalised, discussions are in progress as Germany look to rebuild and usher in a new chapter for their national team.

Klopp confirms contact with the DFB

Addressing the ongoing speculation during his television appearance, Klopp openly stated that the DFB had indeed contacted him as part of their search for a new national coach. He also mentioned that negotiations are still evolving due to his present professional responsibilities.

“Julian has stepped down and the [federation] is working on the succession and has approached me in the course of those considerations,” Klopp said.

The former Liverpool boss also emphasised that he has fully recovered from the fatigue that led him to leave Anfield two years ago.

“About two years ago I stopped at Liverpool and said that I lacked the energy for another job or for another year with Liverpool,” he shared. “Since then I’m more than recharged, I’m ready.”

Klopp calls for deeper reform in German football

Klopp believes that Germany need a complete overhaul after their recent struggles in major international tournaments. He underlined that the focus should go beyond simply appointing a new coach and should instead involve broader structural reform within the national setup.

“German football is obviously at a turning point now,” Klopp explained. “Now we need to change things fundamentally. Whether that’s me in the end or whoever it may be, that doesn’t change the fact that changes are necessary.”

Negotiations continue over potential appointment

The DFB is expected to maintain discussions with Klopp while addressing complications related to his current position as Red Bull’s head of global football. Any eventual agreement will hinge on finding a shared vision for the national team’s future and resolving the practical details of Klopp’s possible exit from his present role.
