Barcelona have reportedly concluded their pursuit of Harry Kane as they look for a long-term replacement for Robert Lewandowski. The La Liga champions had initially explored the option of bringing the England skipper to Camp Nou, but their interest has quickly faded after the striker’s clear intention to continue at Bayern Munich. With Kane committed to his current club, the Catalan side will now turn their attention to other attacking targets.
Barcelona’s plan to sign Kane did not progress beyond initial discussions. The club viewed the Bayern star as a potential heir to Lewandowski, given his proven goalscoring record and leadership qualities. Although Atletico Madrid forward Julian Alvarez remains Barcelona’s primary target, Kane was considered an ideal alternative owing to his consistency and experience at the highest level.
As reported by CF Bayern Insider, Barcelona reached out to representatives of the England captain to evaluate the feasibility of a move to Spain. However, the response they received made it clear that Kane had no interest in leaving Bayern, effectively ending Barcelona’s hopes before any substantial negotiations could begin.
Journalist Christian Falk from Bild confirmed that Barcelona did indeed contact Kane’s camp but emphasised that the forward’s priority remains to stay in Germany. “It is true,” Falk stated. “Harry Kane’s representatives were approached by Barcelona. This was confirmed to me. But I also heard that Barcelona have no real chance of taking Kane away from Bayern Munich.”
Falk further elaborated, “He wants to stay in Munich and sign a new deal. However, he doesn’t plan to do that immediately as he is currently focused on the World Cup with the England national team. Nevertheless, Kane only wants to negotiate with Bayern Munich, and I believe both parties will reach an agreement.”
Bayern Munich, for their part, remain confident about retaining Kane’s services at the Allianz Arena. Following another prolific season in 2025-26, where he netted 61 goals and provided seven assists across all competitions, the forward continues to prove indispensable. Kane has now recorded 146 goals for Bayern and is under contract until June 2027. The club’s management is optimistic he will lead their attacking line for several more years and intend to initiate discussions for a new contract after his international duties conclude.
With Kane fully committed to Bayern Munich, Barcelona are expected to concentrate on alternative options to succeed Lewandowski, with Julian Alvarez still their top target. Meanwhile, Kane remains focused on England’s World Cup campaign, where they are set to face Mexico in the Round of 16 on Monday. Once his international responsibilities are completed, the striker is expected to begin formal contract talks with Bayern Munich.
