Marcus Rashford has made it clear that thoughts about his Manchester United future are far from his mind as he focuses on England’s crucial World Cup round-of-16 encounter with Mexico. The forward emphasised that his attention is solely on representing his country despite ongoing uncertainty about his club situation.

Rashford’s stance on transfer speculation

The England international has reiterated that rumours about his future at Old Trafford will not distract him from his national team duties. Rashford spent the previous season on loan at Barcelona, where he rediscovered his form in La Liga. However, the Spanish club decided not to activate the £26 million option to make the move permanent.

Speaking to the media ahead of the Three Lions’ knockout tie against Mexico, Rashford, as reported by the Daily Mail, was firm about his priorities. “As a person, I live in the moment,” he said. “I made it clear to everyone involved before the World Cup that I wanted everything sorted beforehand, and if not, I wouldn’t deal with it until after. I want to be fully present in this moment.”

Uncertainty continues at Old Trafford

While Rashford remains focused on England’s campaign, his situation at Manchester United is still unresolved. The club is reportedly open to listening to offers for their highest-paid player during the summer transfer window but has ruled out another loan switch to Barcelona. Rashford’s current contract at Old Trafford runs until 2028, giving the club a strong negotiating position.

Despite speculation about a possible departure, Rashford insisted that his full concentration is on the tournament. “At the same time, we’re fighting for something. I don’t have energy to be putting into other things,” he said. Unless a transfer is finalised while he is away, the 26-year-old is expected to return to Carrington for pre-season training three weeks after England’s campaign ends.

Preparing for the Mexico challenge

Rashford and Thomas Tuchel’s squad now face a challenging test against the host nation at the iconic Estadio Azteca. Playing in Mexico City means dealing with a passionate crowd and the demanding altitude, but Rashford appears calm about the conditions—7,200 feet above sea level.

“It’s a great stadium,” the Manchester United academy graduate said before leaving the team’s base in Kansas City. “It’s obviously worked well for them in the past, but that’s irrelevant to us. We know what we’re going to face, and we have to try to control the game and play our football. Whatever comes our way, we’ll handle it and keep pushing forward.”

Managing the altitude factor

England’s coaching staff has been preparing the players to handle the effects of high altitude on ball movement. Rashford believes the squad has enough technical ability to turn the conditions to their advantage, particularly with long-range shots. He remains confident that England’s experience will be key in adapting to the unique challenges of a knockout match at such elevation.

“If we get the chance, we know we have to test the goalkeeper,” Rashford said. “The altitude obviously plays a role, but it’s not something we’re worried about. We’re all experienced players, and it’s about managing the game properly. The goal is to do whatever it takes to win and move forward. There are many factors, but they don’t mean that much.”
