Last month, Real Madrid submitted a detailed report to UEFA as part of their efforts to pursue disciplinary action against Barcelona in connection with the Negreira case. The club, led by president Florentino Perez, maintains that their long-time rivals engaged in misconduct during the years when payments were made to former Referees’ Committee vice-president Jose Maria Enriquez Negreira. Real Madrid have also registered themselves as an affected party in the ongoing judicial proceedings.
At present, UEFA has not issued any ruling on the dossier submitted by Real Madrid. However, La Liga president Javier Tebas has publicly criticised the club’s move during a press conference earlier this week, as reported by MD.
“I haven’t seen the document yet, but I’m really keen to read it. I want to know from which year they begin their complaints, and whether they include errors that have affected all clubs, including Real Madrid themselves. If there’s any club that has no right to complain about refereeing mistakes, it’s Real Madrid,” Tebas remarked.
Tebas was also asked if he would be willing to speak at a Real Madrid presidential inauguration, similar to how he addressed the audience at Barcelona’s event earlier in the week—an occasion that Barcelona president Joan Laporta used to take aim at Perez and the Santiago Bernabeu club.
“If it were an inauguration, of course I would attend,” Tebas said. “I would take the stage and repeat exactly what I said yesterday. There are times when differences arise and things get complicated, but everyone must defend their own position with respect for the institutions. In fact, I receive invitations to the VIP box every weekend, but I don’t go for personal reasons, as I have family matters to attend to.”
Real Madrid are expected to disregard Tebas’ recent remarks and continue pressing UEFA for disciplinary measures against Barcelona over the Negreira affair.
