Manchester United have increased their efforts to strengthen their midfield by exploring a potential transfer for Chelsea’s Andrey Santos ahead of the 2026/27 campaign.

The Red Devils, under the management of Michael Carrick, are eager to continue rebuilding their engine room, and the talented Brazilian midfielder has emerged as one of their main transfer objectives.

According to well-known football journalist Fabrizio Romano, Manchester United have initiated an enquiry to gain a better understanding of Andrey Santos’ current situation.

Early discussions have already taken place between the club and the player’s representatives to assess his willingness to make a move to Old Trafford.

However, Romano noted that Manchester United have not yet submitted an official proposal or made a formal bid to Chelsea.

Importantly, it is believed that Chelsea do not view Santos as entirely “untouchable” during this transfer window.

Reports from Romano suggest that the Blues could be open to negotiating a sale if a significant and persuasive offer is presented.

Manchester United’s pursuit of Santos is in line with their broader strategy to bring in younger, more dynamic midfielders suited to Carrick’s tactical approach.

The Brazilian has built a strong reputation across Europe for his ball-winning skills, ability to advance play through midfield, and contributions at both ends of the pitch.

His attributes make him a potentially ideal partner for new signing Ederson, who recently arrived from Atalanta in a deal estimated at £35 million.

Together, Santos and Ederson could provide United with a more energetic and well-balanced midfield as they aim to compete seriously across all competitions next season.

Manchester United are continuing to evaluate multiple midfield options after missing out on Mateus Fernandes, who joined Tottenham Hotspur in a high-value transfer.

The club had also been linked with Sandro Tonali, alongside Manchester City and Arsenal, but Tottenham secured the Italian midfielder in a record-breaking move.

United still have other players on their shortlist, including Bournemouth’s Alex Scott and Newcastle United’s Bruno Guimaraes, who has also been the subject of transfer speculation.

With Ederson already signed, Manchester United are expected to remain active in the market in search of a second midfielder before the current transfer window closes.
