The application process for the Common Eligibility Test (CET)-2026 has commenced for lakhs of youths preparing for government jobs in Rajasthan. The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board (RSMSSB) has announced both the application process and the exam dates. This time, the CET is being conducted with some significant changes. While the Board has released the new syllabus, it has not specified the topic-wise weightage of marks. This has created uncertainty among the more than 30 lakh candidates preparing for the Graduate and Senior Secondary levels of the CET.
Candidates point out that in previous years, the Board used to release the topic-wise mark distribution alongside the syllabus. This clarified how many marks would be allocated to specific subjects or topics, making it easier to devise a preparation strategy. With the mark weightage not being released this time, candidates are unable to decide which subjects require more focus and which require less. Candidates also note that the REET exam, conducted by the Board of Secondary Education, Rajasthan, releases topic-wise mark weightage, which greatly facilitates preparation. Consequently, there is a demand for the release of topic-wise mark weightage for the CET as well; however, the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board has currently declined to do so.
**Minimum 40% Qualifying Mark Requirement Retained for CET**
The Rajasthan Staff Selection Board has retained the requirement of a minimum of 40% marks to qualify for the CET. Candidates belonging to reserved categories will continue to receive a 5% relaxation, as before. In a major relief to candidates, the Board has extended the validity period of the CET from one year to three years. This means that candidates who qualify will not be required to take the exam every year. However, any candidate wishing to improve their score may appear for the CET annually to do so.
**CET Exam Schedule**
According to the Rajasthan Staff Selection Board, the CET (Senior Secondary Level) exam will be held from October 23 to October 25, 2026. Meanwhile, the CET (Graduate Level) examination is scheduled to be held from December 1 to December 3, 2026. The CET is not a final recruitment exam but rather an eligibility (screening) test; candidates become eligible to appear for various recruitment examinations based on the marks secured in it. The CET determines eligibility for several key recruitment posts, including Platoon Commander, Patwari, Junior Accountant, Tehsil Revenue Accountant, Supervisor (Women Empowerment Department), Deputy Jailor, Hostel Superintendent Grade-II, and Village Development Officer (VDO).
**CET to Pave the Way for 19 to 23 Major Recruitments**
Currently, several major recruitment processes in Rajasthan are pending due to the lack of CET eligibility. These recruitment processes are expected to gain momentum following the conduct of CET-2026. It is anticipated that clearing the CET this time will open doors to approximately 19 to 23 major state government recruitment drives, thereby providing new employment opportunities for lakhs of youths.
