Manchester United are reportedly tracking Paraguay’s international goalkeeper Orlando Gill following his outstanding displays at the World Cup.

The 26-year-old has become a national hero for his performances on the global stage, particularly after helping Paraguay knock out Germany. His impressive form has naturally drawn the attention of major European clubs, with reports from Spain suggesting that Manchester United are eager to add him to their ranks.

Currently, the Red Devils already boast a dependable goalkeeper in Senne Lammens, making Gill’s potential arrival somewhat surprising. Considering his calibre, Gill is unlikely to accept a backup role at Old Trafford, as he is far too talented to spend most of his time on the bench.

There is no denying that Manchester United could benefit from strengthening their goalkeeping depth and adding a reliable understudy to the Belgian shot-stopper. Gill certainly fits that description and would represent an excellent addition to the squad. However, from the player’s perspective, the move seems less logical. At 26, he should be aiming for regular first-team football, and several other clubs could offer him a guaranteed starting position.

It remains to be seen how things progress in the coming weeks. Gill is currently on the books of Sam Lorenzo, a club that will be reluctant to lose one of their key players. Nevertheless, it would be difficult for them to reject a lucrative proposal from a Premier League powerhouse. Manchester United have the financial strength to finalise such a deal and could potentially persuade the player to join their project.

Gill’s remarkable World Cup campaign has undoubtedly boosted his market value, meaning United would likely need to pay a premium if they decide to pursue him seriously. For now, the situation is one to watch as the transfer window unfolds.
