Switzerland and Colombia are set to battle for the last remaining Quarter Final berth at the 2026 World Cup.
The winner of this match will go on to face either Egypt or defending champions Argentina, who are scheduled to play earlier in the day.
Let’s take a look at who will be in charge of officiating this crucial Round of 16 encounter.
The final Round of 16 fixture will be overseen by Salvadoran referee Ivan Barton.
This will be Barton's third assignment at the tournament. He previously officiated the group stage fixtures between Turkey and Paraguay, and Japan and Sweden.
Barton gained considerable attention during the Turkey versus Paraguay game for his highly animated declaration of a red card against Miguel Almiron following a VAR review.
That incident made him the first referee to issue a red card to a player for covering their mouth with their hand.
The 35-year-old is participating in his second World Cup, having presided over three matches in Qatar 2022, including England’s Round of 16 face-off with Senegal.
Joining Barton on the pitch will be two fellow Salvadorans — David Moran and Antonio Pupiro — who will serve as assistant referees on the sidelines.
Additionally, Mexican officials Katia Itzel Garcia and Sandra Ramirez will handle the roles of fourth official and reserve assistant referee, respectively.
Barton’s record for issuing cards has been somewhat inconsistent. Across his three matches at Qatar 2022, he handed out only three yellow cards in total.
However, during 21 matches in the Salvadoran league across 2025 and 2026, he issued 12 red cards and an astonishing 113 yellow cards.
In contrast, he has shown greater restraint in this summer’s tournament, distributing only five yellow cards in total, alongside the red card to Almiron.
