Argentina and Egypt are set to face off in the World Cup round of 16 as both teams aim to secure a place in the quarter-finals.
Lionel Messi will be eager to increase his goal tally in pursuit of the tournament’s Golden Boot, while Egypt will be hopeful of pulling off an unexpected upset against one of football’s most formidable sides.
Overseeing the encounter will be an experienced French referee with a strong reputation on the international stage.
François Letexier has been appointed as the match referee for Argentina vs Egypt, marking his third appearance in this year’s tournament.
Earlier in the competition, Letexier officiated Ivory Coast’s 1-0 victory over Ecuador and later managed the goalless draw between Cape Verde and Saudi Arabia.
The 37-year-old official has an impressive track record. He made history two years ago by becoming the youngest referee ever to oversee a European Championship final, when he took charge of Spain’s triumph over England.
Since then, Letexier has continued to feature in major European competitions, including the UEFA Champions League and the Europa League final last season, where Aston Villa defeated Freiburg.
Joining Letexier on the field will be his compatriots Cyril Mugnier and Mehdi Rahmouni, who will serve as assistant referees on the sidelines.
In addition, two more French officials will handle Video Assistant Referee (VAR) responsibilities. Jérôme Brisard will lead the VAR team, supported by Willy Delajod and Moroccan official Hamza El Fariq.
Assisting from outside the French contingent, El Salvador’s Ivan Barton will serve as the fourth official, with David Moran appointed as the reserve assistant referee.
The match will be played at the Atlanta Stadium in Atlanta, Georgia, with kick-off scheduled for 5 p.m. UK time on Tuesday.
Fans in the United Kingdom can watch the action live on ITV.
