Mumbai: Shinde councilor’s hooliganism in the hospital, assault on doctors and nurses; threatened to kill

A case of assault on doctors and nurses has come to light in Shastri Nagar Hospital of Kalyan-Dombivli Municipal Corporation (KDMC), Mumbai. The allegation of assault has been leveled against a corporator of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde's Shiv Sena, whose name is Ramesh Mhatre. A video of this incident has also surfaced in which Mhatre is seen assaulting the doctors.

After this incident, doctors, nurses and other health workers of the hospital stopped work in protest. Due to which work in the hospital came to a standstill. He has demanded immediate action against the ruling Shiv Sena councilor and adequate security arrangements in the hospital. Doctors allege that they were abused and even threatened to die.

According to the information, this alleged incident took place on Tuesday (July 7). When Shiv Sena councilor Ramesh Mhatre and his supporters slapped a female doctor and brutally beat up nurses after a dispute over referring a pregnant woman. A video of this alleged incident has also gone viral on social media.

CCTV footage allegedly shows Mhatre slapping a female doctor while she was talking to someone on the phone. Mhatre was also seen grabbing the collar of a hospital employee, after which his supporters beat him brutally.

It is being told that a pregnant woman was admitted to Shastri Nagar Hospital for delivery. A woman had a cesarean operation in the hospital. Doctors noticed that two rounds of umbilical cord were wrapped around the neck of the newborn baby due to which his condition was critical. The neonatal intensive care unit (NICU) of the hospital was completely full. Because of which Dr. Srishti Baviskar and Dr. Vaibhav Salunkhe advised to refer the newborn child to another big hospital for better treatment.

Councilor angry for not picking up the phone

The patient's family contacted the local corporator regarding this matter. The doctors, who were busy saving the lives of the patients, could not pick up the call of the local corporator at that time. After this the corporator reached the hospital and the dispute started from here. As soon as he reached the hospital, the corporator started abusing and beating him without listening to anything. Nurses Namita Ubale and Dravya Giri, who came to intervene, were also pushed.

'Get out of the hospital, I will kill you'

Doctors allege that the corporator abused and assaulted Dr. Vaibhav Salunkhe and Dr. Srishti Baviskar without taking complete information. During this, Dr. Vaibhav Salunkhe got injured. This entire incident was recorded in the CCTV cameras installed in the hospital. Doctors also allege that while leaving the hospital, doctors and staff were threatened. He was told, 'Come out of the hospital, I will kill you'.

Hospital employees went on strike

After this incident, doctors, nurses and hospital staff went on strike and stopped work in the hospital. They demanded immediate action against the ruling Shiv Sena councilor and strict security arrangements in the hospital. The doctors and nurses have clearly said that they will not return to work until a case is registered against the accused. At present, the OPD services of the hospital are completely at a standstill and only emergency patients are being seen.
