Oasis frontman Liam Gallagher has made a light-hearted pledge following England’s thrilling 3-2 victory over Mexico in the World Cup 2026 round of 16.

Gallagher said he would be ‘ready’ to perform the classic hit ‘Wonderwall’ at the World Cup final should England make it to the grand event in New Jersey.

The iconic 1995 Oasis track has become the unofficial anthem of England’s World Cup campaign in North America, sung passionately by both fans and players after every triumph.

The latest singalong took place after England’s dramatic win against Mexico, a result that has reignited hope across the nation—and even caught Gallagher up in the World Cup fever.

Manchester City supporter Gallagher was among the millions who stayed awake into the early hours of Monday morning to watch the Three Lions’ victory at the Azteca Stadium in Mexico City.

After the final whistle, England’s players and backroom staff gathered in front of their travelling supporters to belt out ‘Wonderwall’, an emotional moment that even left captain Harry Kane temporarily hoarse, leading to an amusing post-match interview.

Responding to the scenes, Gallagher posted on X: “It’s hard work that singing Harry Kane cmon ENGLAND cmon WONDERWALL.”

When one England fan commented, “Guessing if we do hit the final you know it’s mandatory you fly out there and sing wonderwall live on the pitch,” Gallagher replied, “We’ll see I’m ready.”

The World Cup final is scheduled for Sunday, July 19, in New Jersey, with a closing ceremony to be held on the pitch before kick-off.

Past finals have featured live performances by major artists, so a Gallagher appearance would not be out of the ordinary. The Oasis singer even performed at the same venue as part of the band’s reunion tour in 2025.

However, before any potential final performance, England must first overcome Norway in the quarter-final this Saturday in Miami. If successful, they would face a semi-final next Wednesday in Atlanta, where they previously defeated DR Congo.

The Three Lions have reached the World Cup final only once before, famously lifting the trophy in 1966.

After an impressive showing against Mexico in challenging conditions, England supporters are beginning to believe that Thomas Tuchel’s side could finally end six decades of waiting.

This marks the second straight summer that Oasis have struck a chord with the national mood, following their monumental reunion tour across the UK last year.
